The Young Wolves synopsis

Alain, a well-dressed young man from a good family, is a young wolf.
He is kept by Princess Linzani but at the same time he is going around with Sylvie, a girl of his own age who, in spite of her provocative appearance, is still a virgin. The very night when she gives herself to him, Alain goes off to look for the Princess. Left alone, the young girl starts to wander around Paris. She is caught up in a police raid and rescued by Chris, a young beatnik, who takes her to « La Cage ».

Alain is there. He tries to make his jealousy obvious and when he asks Sylvie to dance, she agrees. Sylvie knows she has won.

Several days later she tells Alain that she has found him a job with the photographer, Riccione, whom she had met at « Elle ». Alain is thrilled, but it isn’t long before Riccione is complaining bitterly to Sylvie about the young man she introduced to him for he has stolen a glass object of some value, and if it isn’t returned, Riccione will report the matter to the police. Sylvie refuses to believe this but is forced to accept the evidence. Alain tries to justify himself. Yes, he did steal it, but only to get his own back on Riccione who had treated him contemptuously. Anyway he has thrown it into the Seine.

But he has to compensate Riccione. The « young wolf » tries to get some money out of the Princess but she’s dropped him. He finds the money at last in the bed of a would-be client whose flat he is to decorate. After this he recovers his self-confidence and takes Sylvie to Deauville in a stolen car. A few weeks later, he tells her of a scheme he has in mind for an all night party that is to be given by Ugo Pescaro, a famous property owner. Sylvie is furious but Alain proceeds with his plan and asks Chris to lend him a dinner suit for the evening. Chris agrees and takes him to his home — a magnificent flat that he hasn’t even seen for a year — and as Alain is going alone to this party, he suggests that Sylvie should spend the evening with Chris.

The young beatnik doesn’t reply, but on the evening of the party he finds her at  » La Cage  » where, out of spite, she is leading on all the young men around her. Chris takes her away and offers to escort her to a place where she would be appreciated by people who matter. And so all three meet up… at Pescaro‘s party. Alain introduces Sylvie to their host as his sister.

Pescara offers Alain the chance of working as the interior designer on his new housing project. He offers him a studio and two rooms for his sister and himself. The deal is concluded but Sylvie is somewhat bothered by the unusual situation. At first she accuses Alain of selling himself out to the rich property man. Soon she discovers just how bad things really are: he has given himself to Pescaro‘s peculiar sexual whims. This time Sylvie runs out, horrified. It is only now that Alain understands how much he loves Sylvie.

He finds out from Chris that she is staying in a villa at Le Cannet and, in despair, he hurries off to see her. Sylvie doesn’t want to listen to him although he swears that he has changed, that he is working now. Alain threatens to commit suicide. Does he really mean to go through with it ? Sylvie relents and agrees to give him his chance. The big car standing outside belongs to the concern for which he is working… his days as a drifter are over…

When they stop at Aix, Sylvie doesn’t hear the radio giving out the number of a stolen car… it is the Ford Mustang in which, happy and confident, she listens to Alain talking about their future…
